Love your show! I have the same coloring as you so am learning a lot of your makeup tips work for me too! You are just a kid compared to me, but at 76 I still like to look my best. Thanks and I am sure you are helping a lot of women feel better about them selves! I love anything that gives my ego a boost or makes me feel glamorous–aways was a fan of the Gabor sisters!
Hi Judy,
Today women are not in their 70s as their Grandmas were. You sound like an authentic woman with a lust for life! We have a saying that LIFE STARTS NOW! Feeling glamorous, giving your ego a boost all leads to confidence whether you’re in your 70s or 90s. I remember the Gabor sisters (Eva & Zsa Zsa) and they seemed to have that certain something of authenticity, glamour but most of all confidence. I’m so glad you’re part of our community. It’s comments like yours that inspire me to keep making the videos. All the best, Heather
Thank you for the helpful product info!!
You are welcome! All the best, Heather
Just discovered your web site. I’m not much of a makeup guru and need lots of help. Love the video….could you tell me what the white make sponge is that you use???
Thanks for your time<
Nancy
Hi Nancy, I’m so glad you enjoyed the video. I’m inspired by the comments here on my blog and on our YouTube channel (Awesome over 50) to keep making videos because of encouraging comments like yours. I have many of these sponges from old compacts that I have had on hand. Since I wash them regularly they last for years. However, I have used the foam triangle ones (usually sold in a multi-pack for under $10. available at most drug stores) and using the narrowest tip will do the trick. I’m not a fan of the big bulb sponges because they use up too much product and don’t dry out in a reasonable time. Hope this helps, Heather
I agree with you on the sponges. I have used the wedge sponges for over 50 years now for:
* foundation application
* eyeshadow “shading” and precision application
* blush “shading”.
Thanks for sharing that. I used to use just my fingers to blend but these sponges have a lot more control. Have a great weekend Martha.
I’m 66 and your video’s are so the best and helpful for me! Love your fun character. Keep it all coming.
Hi Diane, I’m so happy that you are enjoying the videos! Thanks so much for taking the time to let me know! Heather
glad to find someone my age… who understands what it is to be 60 plus. Thanks for sharing and keep it up!
Thanks so much Cheryl for taking the time to let me know that you are enjoying what we’re doing here, it’s much appreciated! Heather
Glad to see a woman our age doing a video! I sell Avon make up and brushes and that is all I use. They are great products. Sad to see you haven’t tried any. But thanks for being a lovely woman in her 60s!
Thanks for taking the time for letting me know you appreciated the video, all the best with the Avon products and best wishes for the holiday season, Heather
Thank you for all help you give me. I learn a lot of how I can look better.

I’m so happy that you’re enjoying my tips and tricks to look and feel a little more awesome. Thanks so much for taking the time to let me know you are learning helpful things, Heather
Hey Heather
Thanks for sharing your time with us its much appreciated. I am learning so much, Had given up on makeup about 8 years ago now thanks to your help Im using it again and it really helps my appearance.
Hi Carol, thanks so much for taking the time to let me know that you’re enjoying the tips. I’m so glad they are helping to give you confidence with your appearance. You just made my day!! Heather
Dear Heather, I just love your attitude and personality. You are still gorgeous and young. I am 75 and love make-up. I used to paint portraits, and the contouring now so in vogue is exactly what one does to shape faces and bodies in art.
Your product recommendations are very useful to me, as well as your color recommendations for yourself. They are a guide for others. Thank you for sharing so generously and openly. I love your tip of using concealer on the back of the hands. I’ll try that, and I love your naming the brands to try, both lower priced and the occasional splurges. You are an absolute delight❣️❣️
Wow Pat thanks so much for your encouraging comment! As a fellow creative person you know who much goes into sharing your love of something with the world. Viewing a comment such as yours just makes my day! Thanks again and you are also inspiring at 75 still rocking the makeup!
Well, well, well…..a woman who isn’t 21 years old, giving women our age make-up tips!! Don’t you love those commercials for wrinkle creams on tv with 12 year olds telling us how wonderful they work?! And women buy into that!! Sad but true.
Thank you, Heather, for being authentic. For showing women our age (excuse me, my age: 68) that we don’t need spackle on our faces to look fresh, that although we have flaws we needn’t apply plaster…if hiding a few of them makes us feel more confident, then let’s go for it, but without the clown make-up!
Honey, you just glow with mature confidence and poise! And I LOVE your sense of humour!!
Please keep up with your videos, I hope you and your hubby continue to enjoy your Vitamix (if I’m correct), but less fruit, more veggies, okay? 🙂 I love to process cucumbers, carrots, lettuce, with a fruit, an apple, or a few pineapple tidbits (canned), and although my Hubby isn’t partial to the stuff, I flaunt it anyway. 🙂 My usual breakfast is a smoothie: 1c almond milk, 1 scoop vanilla or chocolate protein powder, one egg (yes, they’re safe these days), and a banana. That’ll get you through a long morning!! There. You asked for recipes, so there are my two favourites, plus there are oodles to google.
Take good care of yourselves, love your journey together; my DH and I are striking things off my bucket list (Rockettes Christmas show, a home game at Lambeau field, at Ford field .. yes, those are mine. :)) and continue to enjoy our 47 years together with family and friends!
Hugs, Lynn
Wow what a wonderful and well thought-out comment! I sincerely enjoyed reading your comments on the beauty culture and appreciate the encouragement to keep on making videos. Thanks to great people like you we have decided to keep on making them! I also liked your share about the smoothies, I definitely have to get more greens into my diet. Since this is New Years Day my hubby and I are going to sit down later and write out all the fun things we want to do next year. We did a list last year divided into seasons and kept it on a wall in our office. As we do the fun things we cross them off. We did all but about 2 on the list and there were at least 24 on the lists. Fun is something many our age forget about but it’s magical for health and our relationship. Enjoy your bucket list Lynn, you sound like you’re definitely an Awesome over 50! Hugs back, from Heather
Hi Heather!
I’m a brunette with medium light skin! Any suggestions for eyeshadow and blush colors? Also want to know what you do for morning and evening facial care! Thank you for the awesome videos!
Thank you,
Donna
Hi Donna, If you also have darker hair I would suggest browns for in the crease eyeshadow and beige or cream as a highlighter and on the lids. Don’t use anything too glossy and stick to matte colors. The blush that I would suggest would be in the coral range and not pinks. this is just a guideline. I’d suggest making a day of it and going to a mall or department makeup counter of the brand you like the most and having a makeover done with these colors before you buy. Treat yourself to the colors you like and maybe a latte as you get excited about the new look!
As for my morning routine, I’m going to surprise you, unless I have a blemish or something I want treated I let my skin breathe, no ingredients on it whatsoever. I do put on a moisturizing primer though before any foundation applications. At night I use the collagen cream and coconut oil as in my latest video, here’s the link in my blog, if you scroll down the page you will find the products I use. (you may have to copy and paste the url in your browser) https://lovingourage.com/beauty/sharing-my-top-10-secrets-to-keeping-a-more-youthful-look/
Hope this helps! Heather
Hi, Heather,
I am 58, pretty new to makeup (things happen!) and your video together with this blog are absolutely the best what I’ve watched. Thank you so much!
If I may, I have a question: I am redhead (copper-copper) with blue eyes and fair skin. Any suggestions about eye-shadow palette?
Thank you so much,
Helen.
Hi Helen, thanks so much for your encouraging comment, it’s people like you who inspire me to keep making videos!
As for the eye shadow palette I’m looking at my L’Oreal one that I have on my blog and I think it would be perfect for you. Make sure you get the La Palette Nude2 version. You can use the palette as per the time of day (darker browns for nightime) Since you are new to makeup I would say go with the softer brown to start. Also the soft beige/cream will look lovely on your eyelid and just under the brow as a highlighter. I would also suggest a dark brown eyeliner pencil crayon and make sure you buy a good brand that is soft on your eyelid. You could also try a navy blue eye liner pencil that will highlight the color of your eyes. I hope this helps Helen. Heather
Hello Heather. I am almost 50 now and was looking for makeup techniques and fashion styles that work better for my maturing appearance. I still look and feel fabulous at 50 but after watching several of your videos, i wanted you to know that I am so thankful to have someone to aspire to be like in the future. Knowing that we can still be beautiful well into our 50’s, 60’s and 70’s is inspiring. I couldn’t help but notice that you were not using any of the Senegence products. There are no budge no smudge waterproof liquid lip color (Lipsense), creme to powder liquid eye shadow, eyeliner, blush, foundations, etc. You should give those try. I recently got the discount and ended up supplying this long lasting lip color and cosmetics to my friends, coworkers, family (and to their friends). The products are AMAZING and this month Jan 2018, the company will gift you back your $55 in product credit. So nothing to lose. Text me at 559-824-2524. My distributor number is 365842 – Let me know if you are interested and i will send you the link. After Jan the fee is $55 but you still will get 20-50% of all the products. I have converted ALL of my makeup over the last year so i am a believer. There is unlimited earning potential as well as unlimited training available. Again, I think your energy and enthusiasm to help other women will make you most successful in what ever you do. So let me know if you are interested or just want to learn more about our products and i will do all that i can to help you continue to help other women feel beautiful. II have saved you as a favorite so i will continue to watch your future videos. Best of luck to you. xoxo. Jennifer
Hi Jennifer, thanks so much for the inspiring comments about the blogs and videos, much appreciated. I appreciate the offer for the Senegence products. I will Google them and if I think it’s something that will work with myself and my audience I’ll let you know. Take care. Heather
Hi !
My problem is that one eye is hooded and droopy and the other eye is fairly “normal”. I am 54 years young. I only use mascara which doesn’t do enough to make my eyes pop. I also have blue eyes and fair skin. Playing around with shadows and liners never seems to work out. Any suggestions ? Would love to hear back
Hi Lori Anne, your problem is a tough one because you don’t want to over-do one eye or it would be obvious. I have a new hooded, downturned eyes video coming out this Monday on this blog for you. (if you subscribe to our YouTube channel or go to You Tube… search Awesome over 50, you can see it on Saturday. I would say to put a gentle swoosh upward on the downturned eye with a light brown eyeshadow and a bit with the the eyeliner (put on outer part of eye as in my video). Use only neutral colours on the shadow like a soft brown on both eyes. I would also go a bit heavier on the black eyeliner on the non-downturned eye as this will close it up a bit more but be camoflaged by the mascara. I hope this helps, all the best, Heather
Hi Heather, I really enjoyed all your you tube videos, although I have always used make up I needed inspiration for make up at 62. I used products the way you suggested and when my husband returned from watching a football match, he said how nice I looked. Just one thing I couldn’t get on with defining my brows. I have strawberry blonde hair and very fair eyebrows, when applying the eye brow pencil, even lightly, it made my eyebrows very orange. Can you suggest a way round this? Best wishes
Hi Sandra, you may have to go to a local department store or mall and ask for a light blonde eyebrow pencil that matches better. Also instead of a straight line try filling the hairs in with little dashes upwards like real hairs. You probably just need a bit of eyebrow pencil, not a lot. All the best with it! Heather
Your great teacher and leader please always keep up your great energy and wonderful help to us your Awesome thanks for all you do love merry
Thanks so much for your kind words Mary!
Hi Heather, I’m 61 I’ve never been big on make up. One because I did not know how to apply it right even as a young woman. At this point in my life I’m a mother of young women, Nana to 4 awesome grandbabies and a wife of 40 years, happy but I needed to feel better about me. Thanks to you and your awsome videos Im enjoying the world of makeup and I don’t look like a clown or wow here comes makeup lol. You are so very down to earth I feel I’ve known you forever. I love the fact you like the more natural look and your age is just a number not you. Being a model did not make you better than the rest of the world. You talk about your inperfections and you go on with life. God has a special place for kind people like you. Again thank you because you have made a diffrance in my life. One request please could you at some point do a video on the brushes and what to use where I get so confused. God Bless stay as you are.
Hi Cathy. Your comment touched my heart. Your words were so beautiful and I hope God will continue to guide us in our journey. You sound like you have lived a fulfilled life with children and grandchildren and I’m so happy that you are now finding time for CATHY. I have written down your idea to do a video on makeup brushes and I will do that in the future. We make the videos for people like you and your comment allows us to know that we’re on the right track. Best wishes and blessings to you too. Heather
Hi Heather,
I just found your channel and really think your tips will help me. I am 62 and really never knew how to use makeup and like you I have hooded eyes, fair skin and dark reddish blonde hair. The colors you showed are the colors that I use. However, since I wear glasses I want to know if the same makeup tips apply.
Thank you
Hi Sharon, I’m so glad that you found the channel and are enjoying it! I did do a video on wearing eyeglasses and makeup. Here’s the link for you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xcv4xzqPhvg
Just found you tutorials on you tube. Very informative. Just watched the eye makeup for drooping eyelids video…….excellent! Lovely voice and great presentation. Thank you
Thanks so much for taking the time to let me know that you enjoyed the video. It means a lot!
Great presentation, Heather. Please subscribe me.

Hi!
I just came across one of your videos on YouTube, the one with the do and don’t eye 👁 And I could help but watch more videos of yours, subscribe and then find your blog. What your doing is so refreshing and real! I’m 33 with hooded eyes and a similar facial structure, so for me, your tutorials are wonderful! I’ve been doing winged eyeliner for 10 years and your video opened up my eyes, literally lol So glad I found your videos. Thank you for all your tutorials!
Thanks so much for your comment Carly. I’m so glad I helped to “open your eyes” . It’s people with encouraging words like yours that inspire me to keep on making the videos.
Don’t know how i found you but i thank God I did! So much knowledge for
Us. Thank you so very much. Just found your blog too. Oh happy day!!
Thanks for your kind words Pat, you just made my day!!!
Hi Heather,
Just came upon your video “Dos and Don’ts” today while viewing a Facebook ad. So glad I did. I’m 65 and a former sun worshiper so I’m paying for that now.
I have dark circles under my eyes that get worse as I get older. All the makeup I try doesn’t do anything except highlight the lines and creases under my eyes. Any suggestions?
You have beautiful skin by the way. You must have taken better care of your skin than I did in your younger days.
In your case less is more. I would suggest using just a concealer in the same color and brand as your foundation (without applying foundation on top of it) and instead of putting powder under your eyes put something such as Revlon’s Photoready antishine cream. It works great and is not drying so to not enhance your wrinkles. We have it at our http://www.amazon.com/shop/awesomeover50 storefront under Makeup if you want to check it out. Hope this helps- Heather
I also just came across your video about Do’s and Don’ts for Hooded Eyes. It was an eye-opening learning experience (pun intended) and I definitely will be using some of your pointers.
Thank you for doing these tutorials.
You are so welcome Pam and thanks for taking the time to let me know you’re enjoying the videos!
Hi Heather, I love your video on do’s and don’ts for hooded eyes and was wondering what you could recommend for someone who not only has hooded eyes, but has bags under the eyes as well (that someone would be me of course) Thanks for being such a great role model for all of us striving to be awesome over 50!
Hi Eileen and thanks for your kind words. When working with bags under the eyes I find that less makeup under the eyes is best. Usually there are dark circles accompanying the bags so with a concealer cream lightly put it on the dark circles. Make sure the color of the concealer is the same as your foundation. Don’t put powder over the concealer to set it as this will accentuate the bags . Just use an antishine cream such as Revlon’s Photoready antishine cream. We have a link for you under our makeup section at http://www.Amazon.com/shop/awesomeover50 if you need to find it. Hope this helps! – Heather
Please help! Age, hormones and the dreaded M word have changed my skin completely. I’m now dehydrated and have lots of fine lines, texture and cavernous pores. The sun isn’t kind in my part of the world- so pretty please could you share the secret of using a full coverage foundation for mature skin!
The best full coverage foundation I have used lately is Estee Lauder Double Wear. The concealer is also available. I hope this helps.
What is the best way to remove blonde/silver facial hair? I have sensitive skin and have tried many things. Is permanent removal successful for most women? Is it done by dermatologists?
I would check with a dermatologist if you have sensitive skin. I haven’t had this problem as of yet but that would be the first place I would try.
I have just discovered your channel, and am enjoying it a lot, I am 67 and get lots of ideas from you thanks
Thanks so much for taking the time to let me know you are enjoying the videos Lynda. Much appreciated!
Finally someone with my droopy eyelids like mine. Purple is my color too! Except with brown eyes. It goes well with blonde hair. [Why are so many shadows frost ? It does not go well with wrinkles.] Struggle to find matte. One called Teddy Bear works. Same company as your purple pink. Which I am going to try. Your video was the best. Thanks for the tips.
Thanks so much for the lovely comment Kathy. I agree that the frosted shadows just emphasis the wrinkles. I’ll have to check out that Teddy Bear one! Thanks for sharing.
Hi Heather
What if u don’t have a Nordstroms close to u and also I’m Canadian so the prices will be more than what you’re paying.
Any other suggestions for a less expensive makeup? Charlotte Tilbury is out of my price range too.
Love your lust for life. Found out my husband of 49 yrs has been cheating for almost 10 yrs, so I’m extremely heart broken, I guess I got to old and old looking!
I’m so sorry to hear about what happened to you. I’m Canadian too so I always find makeup for both sides of the border. There are some less expensive makeup ideas that I still use such as Cover Girl (you can find the products in most Shoppers Drug Marts or Walmarts.
I hope you know that you can still have a lust for life. I ended up in a home for abused women several years ago from my ex-husband and decided that I still had a lot of living to do and I hope you decide that too Cathrin. Take Care- Heather
I am a 62 year old who’s never liked the ‘hassle’ of makeup or the ‘unnatural’ look, but now — guess what — I need to. How can I go from zero makeup to normal makeup without shocking myself and my friends? Is there a gradual way to increase the makeup use? Thank you!
Here’s a video I did on beginning to use make-up. It is a gradual thing so take as long as you like. Hope this helps! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1AGnwfxiXLI
You’re my new heroette! 🙂
Aww, thanks for this wonderful comment!!
Thanks for sharing for nice video with required information about make up tips and beauty products. I learnt details about this.
So glad you liked it and learned from it!
